Sudbury is the largest hardrock mining centre in North America and among the largest in the world. Given that Sudbury is such a world-level centre of mining atop such enormous mineral wealth, one might think Sudbury its region would exude substantial prosperity, with well-provided cultural, educational, health and social-welfare institutions, and a well-maintained and attractive physical infrastructure. But this is far from the Sudbury most people here experience. This book explores the impact of globalization and corporate power in a hinterland mining town, particularly their effects on working people, as well as how and why resistance has emerged.
